The Monte da Charca provides lovers of wine and rural activities with pre-defined programmes of variable lengths, thus allowing guests to participate daily alongside the rural workers in the various field activities required to cultivate the vine.
These programmes take place throughout the year and encompass the following activities:
» from 15 Nov to 28 de Feb: pruning and binding (cutting and fixing the vine onto the support wire).
» from 1 April to 30 May: pruning the unripe areas (cutting and cleaning the stems for the vines).
» from 15 July to 15 August: pruning bunches (pruning bunches in order to improve the sugar level of the vines).
» from 25 August to 7 October: harvest and cellars (collection, transfer of wine and bottling)
» throughout the whole year: “levelling” (the levelling of soils next to the grapevines)
Breakfast and lunch are taken with the field workers during your stay, whilst dinner is served up by the renowned chef Luis Baena – the executive chef of Quinta de Catralvos (see www.quintadecatralvos.com). Accommodation is in one of the Monte’s comfortable rooms.
The Monte da Charca provides working gloves and rubber boots, as well as other necessary tools. Other clothing in keeping with the seasons is the responsibility of participants
